Gender Inversion - Masculine? Feminine? Both? or Neither?

In the beginning, the first man and woman were created in the image of God--having intellect, emotions, and volition--reciprocal and complementary creatures, reflecting the personality attributes of the Creator. Had tragedy not intervened (the Fall), we would have witnessed the expression of genuine masculinity and femininity. However, sin did enter the world (Romans 5:12) through these first two individuals and consequently our ability to witness and experience 'gender' as it was originally designed was lost. Nevertheless, by His grace and mercy, the Creator has not left us adrift. He has given us both general and specific revelation and internal and external witness as to the existence of 'gender'.

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong." 1 Corinthians 16:13.

"A wife of noble character, who can find? She is worth far more than rubies." Proverbs 31:10.

What is gender inversion?

As an effect of the Fall, gender inversion is a gradual and complex adoption of various mannerisms, attitudes, and behaviors of the opposite sex--a progressive reversal of role, men acting like women, and women like men. This inversion typically occurs over several generations--a progressive downward spiral. Most of us have experienced the married couple where the boorish wife "wears the pants" and the husband is a mild-mannered, self-effacing "milk toast." At this stage, most traditional friends and third-party observers may recognize something is seriously wrong with the relationship...it is "unnatural". However, in its early stages, it is so subtle that it commonly goes unnoticed. Or as things progress, the inversion becomes the butt of comments and jokes designed to hopefully put everyone at ease. In most cases, the woman dominates verbally in social settings, while the husband, if unable to escape, is passive and sits quietly by.

If the couple is religious or even Christian, the male typically has little or no interest in spiritual matters (an obsession with sports possibly substituting) and the wife may be involved in every women's Bible or book study available--on the road to becoming the authority in most issues of substance. Later, with the help of a less-than-safe-and-sound church and some so-called Christian leaders, she may occupy the role of a teacher to her husband and even other men. Some women become puzzled and frustrated by their husbands' lack of interest in spiritual matters and their unwillingness to follow the female lead. She will likely welcome any effort to do something about this and now the husband is a prime candidate for say--a Promise Keepers conference. She will 'encourage' or prod him into attending a local meeting or stadium rally, but in spite of all this, the situation is likely to remain generally unchanged.

"A women should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent." 1 Timothy 2:11,12.

[In an extreme and advanced phase, the secular psychiatric profession labels this--Gender Identity Disorder (GID). This is defined in the DSM-IV, the American Psychiatric Association's diagnostic manual, as a persistent discomfort with one's assigned sex [gender] and a feeling that this sex [gender] is inappropriate. Being "certified" with GID grants approval for the medical profession to perform a transsexual genital switch!]

What is matriarchy?

Matriarchy is the behavioral extension of gender inversion--the goal being female dominance. Often, the man, having relinquished, beginning with the spiritual, his male role and responsibility creates a 'leadership vacuum' into which the woman is drawn. Or the woman, under encouragement and support from mother or female associates, usurps her husband's position through subtle manipulation (maybe sexual) or outright abusiveness and violence, or both. If the husband is other than passive, conflict is inevitable. Over time, if she persists, she may likely destroy the marriage (or even her family!) in her bid for control and dominance. When this usurpation extends to the local church, the women may control from behind the scenes or increasingly take an up front leadership role. In humanistic Christian denominations and interdenominational women's ministries, Scripture is twisted or altogether ignored to allow women access to ministerial positions, equality of role, and authority over men. Some Christian marriage counselors, such as Gary Smalley, unwittingly lay the foundation for all of this.

"Wives...your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master." 1 Peter 3:1-6.

What is homosexuality?

"Therefore God gave them over in sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent act with other men..." Romans1:24-27.

Sexual relations between husband and wife is the God-designed and ordained "natural" (Greek: phusikos) order for this world. Sexual pleasures in marriage is biblically defined as "natural relations." Is it any wonder why homosexuals seek to change the definition of "marriage"?

Adultery is biblically defined as passion and cravings for "natural relations" outside the bonds of marriage. Whether entertained mentally ("lust of the eyes") or acted upon by husband or wife, the result is adultery (Matthew 5:28). Both the thought and action are sin--the product of our fallen and Adamic nature/life (the flesh). Under the administration of Israel's Mosaic Law dispensation or economy, God's penalty for adultery was execution--the death penalty.

Unrestrained lust is the doorway to perverted or vile passion (Greek: pathos atimia)--"relations" with the same sex--also the product of the sinful nature. When these "unnatural" impulses are acted upon the result is homosexuality. Likewise, under the administration of Israel's Mosaic Law, God's penalty for homosexuality was also execution. While God continues to view adultery and homosexuality as seriously perverse behaviors, we currently live in an era ("Time of the Gentles") when theonomic law has been suspended, an era where the death penalty judgment for these acts is temporarily suspended. However, take no comfort--judgment delayed is not judgment forgotten.

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders......will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

Homosexuality can be the complex consequence of: disorientation regarding one's 'origin of being', the influence and confusion created by gender inversion, and in some cases a substitute worship of the creation [pantheism or animism] in contrast to Scriptural Theism. In spite of the propaganda campaign, homosexuality is not the result of genetics.

One often hears or reads how various sexual fantasies during childhood are proof for a congenital homosexual disposition. However, these mental fantasies (similar to other morbid or perverse thoughts) are not confirmation of a homosexual bent, but rather are the universal stirrings of our sinful nature (sin) which IS congenitally received at birth and inherited from our fallen progenitors--Adam and Eve. See Genesis 5:3. What makes an adulterer or homosexual is not the thought, but the fact that the individual chooses to act on their imaginary behaviors and yield to the sinful passion/lust.

Androgyny - it's here!

And it's not confined to the Heaven's Gate cult. No longer a reaction to gender, the growing androgynous movement is a blending of gender, unisex, or asexual orientation. Can these inversions be reversed?

Theoretically, yes. God has provided a way of escape. However, Jesus said:

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matthew 7:13,14.

How encouraging to hear the Apostle Paul say:

"For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace." Romans 6:14.

"But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves of sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." Romans 6: 17,18.

A Brief Word about Promise Keepers

From time-to-time, we receive email asking for our opinion regarding the Promise Keepers movement. The Internet contains dozens of excellent in-depth critiques and we've included a link here and there as deemed appropriate throughout our Web site. Promise Keepers, now headquartered in Denver, was founded in the early '90s by Bill McCartney, then head coach of the University of Colorado football team at Boulder, Colorado. His success as the leader and motivator of the CU Buffaloes granted him a high profile with the newspaper and TV media. Simultaneously, he was outspoken regarding the "abomination" of homosexuality. This awkward situation led McCartney into a running battle with the gay and lesbian communities and liberal newspaper media in the Boulder-Denver area. McCartney was unable to win the public relations war and was regularly portrayed by the liberal element as a bigot who should forfeit his position with the university. Figuratively, Coach Mac found himself backed up on his own two yard line and in need of a different game plan. In response to his public relations debacle, Bill shifted from defense to offense. Rather than focusing on the lack of masculinity amongst men, his newly founded Promise Keepers ("PK") would work to celebrate Biblical manhood and motivate men toward Christ-like masculinity -- a noble goal. Thereafter, he resigned his coaching position to the glee of the radically liberal Boulder college crowd and community to work full-time with his outreach to men.

Bill McCartney is a former(?) Catholic who, like other key leaders within PK, has been affiliated with the ultra-charismatic Vineyard Christian Fellowship movement. The doctrinal orientation of both PK and Vineyard is Christian humanism! The PK gospel is inconsistent with the Apostle Paul's Gospel of Grace. True to McCartney and company's religious background, the movement's impulse is the inverse of Romans 9:16 -- "So then, it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy." Interestingly, Christian humanism and gender inversion go hand-in-hand. If you have spent any length of time in a humanistic "Christian" denomination, you'll know of what we speak. It is not a coincidence that the United Methodist Church has ordained several hundred lesbian clerics over the past several decades. Ironically, Promise Keepers is attempting to address a problem their erroneous theology is helping to create. For the most part, their efforts will prove impotent.

Pandora's Box - A Letter from the Roman Catholic Bishops

Since Catholicism shares the bitter self-righteous experience of ancient Judaism, the contemporary clergy were recently (10/97) constrained to address the internal conflict between Catholic parents and their homosexual sons and daughters. In their official pastoral document, "Always Our Children," the bishops have sought to bring "healing" to the flock by erroneously asserting that the "homosexual orientation cannot be considered sinful, for morality presumes the freedom to choose" and homosexuality is "not something freely chosen." Not according to Scripture! The Roman Catholic bishops may be politically correct, but they ultimately wrong. Harsh will be God's judgment of those who create dogma which contradicts the clear statement of inerrant Scripture.

This capitulation was jubilantly received by homosexuals as well as American and European Catholics. Contrary to popular perception, today's average Catholic is typically NOT a theist (a believer in a personal God) in the classic sense. Like their liberal Protestants counterparts, many Catholics are agnostic modernists, being a blend of both superstitious and materialistic viewpoints.

The most basic question in this controversy comes down to this: Has God created human beings as male and female with a revealed intention for how we are to relate to each other? The secular world is now deeply committed to confusion on these matters. Denying the Creator, the secular worldview understands gender to be nothing more than the accidental byproduct of blind evolutionary process. Therefore, gender is reducible to nothing more than biology and, as the feminists famously argued, biology is not destiny.

This radical rebellion against a divinely-designed pattern of gender has now reached the outer limits of imagination. If gender is nothing more than a biological accident, and if human beings are therefore not morally bound to take gender as meaningful, then the radical gender theorists and homosexual rights advocates are correct after all. For, if gender is merely incidental to our basic humanity, then we must be free to make whatever adjustments, alterations, or transformations in gender relationships any generation might desire or demand.

The postmodern worldview embraces the notion of gender as a social construct. That is, postmodernists argue that our notions of what it means to be male and female are entirely due to what society has constructed as its theories of masculinity and femininity. Of course, the social construction of all truth is central to the postmodern mind, but when the issue is gender, the arguments become more volatile. The feminist argument is reducible to the claim that patriarchal forces in society have defined men and women so that all the differences ascribed to women represent efforts by men to protect their position of privilege.

Of course, the pervasiveness of this theory explains why radical feminism must necessarily be joined to the homosexual agenda. For, if gender is socially constructed, and therefore differences between men and women are nothing more than social convention, then heterosexuality becomes nothing more than a culturally-privileged form of sexuality.

The utopia envisioned by ideological feminists would be a world free from any concern for gender--a world where masculinity and femininity are erased as antiquated notions, and an age in which the categories of male and female are malleable and negotiable. In the postmodern view, all structures are plastic and all principles are liquid. The influence of previous ages has molded us to believe that men and women are distinct in significant ways, but our newly liberated age will promise to free us from such misconceptions and point us toward a new world of transformed gender consciousness.

As Elizabeth Elliot once reflected: "Throughout the millennia of human history, up until the past two decades or so, people took for granted that the differences between men and women were so obvious as to need no comment. They accepted the way things were. But our easy assumptions have been assailed and confused, we have lost our bearings in a fog of rhetoric about something called equality, so that I find myself in the uncomfortable position of having to belabor to educated people what was once perfectly obvious to the simplest peasant."

While this page is primarily theological, it discusses information that is considered intolerant by some and highly controversial. Sadly, some search engines have at times deleted it from their current index on the ludicrous pretense that it is "pornographic." Since most search engine makes available hundreds of actual porno pages, we can only conclude that these blocks are examples of postmodernist censorship--CULTURAL MARXISM at work beyond the college campus.
